Sometimes it’s hard to find the words to describe something you taste, but when it comes to tea, you can use our tea flavour wheel to help you out. Tasting is a sensory experience that involves three basic steps: see, sniff and sip. We know sometimes tasting tea can be intimidating but we want to do it with you!
Trust us, there is no right or wrong answer. It’s about how YOU taste! It’s a very subjective experience, so try to draw from your own memories, experiences and your own personal language every step of the way.
Here are three steps that we always start a tea tasting session with:
1. See
Notice the colour, shape of the leaves, and the steeped tea.
2. Sniff
Inhale the vibrant aromas.
3. Sip
Take a loud sip and notice the taste, flavours and feeling in your mouth.
Take some time to look over the tea tasting flavour wheel we use to help us find the words for what we taste! Keep in mind, this is just a guide. We’re here to help you get started and you can take it from there. Keep sipping and you’ll be a tea tasting pro in no time.
