If there’s one thing you need to check off your UK to-do list, it’s indulging in Afternoon tea. This 3-4PM teatime tradition pairs black tea with a sophisticated array of finger sandwiches, scones and other tempting treats.
Afternoon tea etiquette
• Stir gently
• Place a napkin on your lap
• Don’t splash your tea
• Don’t clink your cups or spoon
• Don’t lick your fingers
Don’t call it “high tea” when you really mean “afternoon tea.” Outside the UK, afternoon tea is often referred to as high tea, which is a misnomer. Historically, high tea was a working class meal served on a high table at the end of the workday; whereas afternoon tea (or “low tea”) is typically served around 3-4PM and was traditionally served on low tables.
