How to make a chai latte from scratch

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As fall settles in for the season, you may find yourself lingering in bed a little longer or choosing sneakers over sandals as you walk out the door. For us, it’s our incessant craving for a chai latte that signals the end of summer.

What does a chai latte taste like? Pure magic. Maybe it’s the combination of warm spices, black tea and milk, but there’s nothing more comforting. There’s no coffee in a chai latte – in fact, our blends contain zero to a medium amount of caffeine, so you can sip morning into night.

When people ask us whether chai lattes are healthy, we always say it comes down to the spices in the chai you’re drinking. For example, cinnamon is thought to help boost memory, assist with digestion and give you that glow while ginger is used in traditional Chinese and Ayurveda medicine to ward off cold weather. If you’d like to learn more about chai tea, the spices we use in our tea and their benefits, you definitely should read Chai 101.

What’s the best chai for a latte? We highly recommend David’s Chai, S’mores Chai, Organic Cinnamon Rooibos Chai, Maple Chai and Pumpkin Chai. You can order an authentic chai latte over the counter at one of our stores or make one at home by following this simple recipe.

Chai latte

Ingredients

  • 4 Perfect Spoons of chai tea
  • ½ cup (4 oz) water (consult tea’s steeping instructions for temperature)
  • 1 ¼ cup of milk or dairy free alternative

Directions

Step 1
Add 4 Perfect Spoons chai to a Steeper and steep according to steeping instructions.
Step 2
Dispense tea from Stepper into a 16 oz cup, then top with frothed milk.

Pro tip: Use a large spoon to hold back the foam and allow the liquid to pour in first. As the liquid runs out, release the spoon to let the foam fill the rest on top.
