Get the scoop on Fair Trade and Organic Teas

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s Saturday afternoon and you’re craving a cup of tea. So you decide to browse through our wide variety of loose leaf blends and you start seeing words like “Fair Trade” and “Organic” pop up over and over. But what do these words actually mean, and why should you care? As it turns out, they serve a pretty important purpose. Read on to find out what it is.

What is Fair Trade?

When it comes to growing tea, quality is key. We want to make sure your daily cup is made from ethically sourced ingredients that are not only good for you, but also good for the workers involved in producing them. That’s why we’ve stamped some of our blends with the Fair Trade Certified logo pictured above. But what does this label really mean?

Fair Trade certification is only given to products that have been ethically grown and traded – so you know for sure that all the farmers and workers in developing countries who helped produce and harvest them are getting a fair price for their ingredients. This certification helps promote safer, healthier working conditions, protects the environment, enables full transparency and empowers communities. That’s a whole lot of good for just one label!

Make a difference with our Fair Trade teas

We love making a difference in people’s lives, which is why we carry a wide selection of Fair Trade teas from tea gardens from all over the world – whether it’s a guayusa farm in Ecuador or a renowned plantation in Happy Valley, India.

Want to make your next tea purchase count? Keep an eye out for this logo on our packaging in store! Or check out our selection of Fair Trade teas below.

What is Organic?

In order for a tea to be labeled as Certified Organic, it has to go through rigorous growing, storing, processing and packaging requirements. It means all of the ingredients have been grown without the use of harmful synthetic chemicals like fertilizers, pesticides, additives or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). We’ll raise our mugs to that!

Why should I buy organic?

Organic agriculture is safer for farmers, healthier for consumers and better for the environment. Hello, triple threat.

If you’re looking to make the switch to organic, we’ve got you covered. From morning pick-me-ups like David’s Breakfast Tea and Japanese Sencha to fan fave blends like Goji Green and North African Mint, our flavour-packed assortment of organic loose leaf teas is a delicious way to give back to the planet.
