When you’ve spent the better part of an afternoon shovelling your way to freedom, you want a drink that not only warms you up but fills you with the buzz of the season.
After all, what is winter good for if not for enjoying the sweetest of treats: homemade hot chocolate. And no, we’re not talking about the powdered kind your mom gave you. (And which, let’s be honest, we also totally love.)
No, this recipe is for grownups. Made with melted chocolate and milk – just like they do it in France – this recipe has a secret weapon: deliciously spiced Glitter Chai tea. Made with cinnamon and, yes, a bit of gold, the flavour of this tea adds a little heat to a beloved classic. Top with maple syrup-infused whip cream and enjoy every sip.
Glitter Chai Hot Chocolate
- 3 Perfect Spoons Glitter Chai tea
- 8 oz milk chocolate, roughly chopped
- 8 oz dark chocolate, roughly chopped (we suggest 75%)
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 cup milk or milk substitute
- 1 cup whipping cream 35%, for topping
Add 3 Perfect Spoons of Glitter Chai tea to a Steeper with 1 cup of 95℃/200℉ hot water and steep for 6 mins.
In a saucepan on medium-low heat, add chocolate, milk and tea.
Heat gently for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add maple syrup and adjust quantity for desired sweetness.
Add whipped cream and a dash or two of maple syrup in a large glass bowl. Whisk until the cream forms stiff peaks. Add a dollop to the hot chocolate and enjoy.
*Also delicious with marshmallows.
